Band Profile: I, Octopus

Mike and Blake of instrumental rock band I, Octopus were college roommates in 2000 and have been jamming together ever since. Their current drummer, J, joined the band in 2005, playing his first show with the band just weeks before the infamous Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans sending the members of the band into separate cities. This hiatus did not stop them, in fact, since their reformation they have recorded and released a full-legnth album entitled "I'd Rather be a Lightning Rod than a Seismograph" (a Ken Kesey quote) and are working on their next album which will most likely be recorded at Big Brown later this year.

These guys are some of my best friends and co-cerators of the festival, and it wouldn't happen without them!
Try to check them out at Burning Crawfish this Saturday! They go on at 3:00.

Then, stick around for their corporate-gangster alter-egos...White Colla Crimes later that night.

Band Profile: Lovey Dovies

One of my favorite New Orleans bands, the Lovey Dovies serve up a delicious helping of what can only be described as good ol' fashion grunge rock. Landing somewhere between Dinosaur Jr and Local H, Lovey Dovies really bring you to a happy place with some of the catchiest hooks I've ever heard. Their self-titled debut CD is awesome from beginning to end...each song standing out in its own special way.

While they are still a relatively new band (formed  in 2009), they have already toured extensively including east and west coasts as well as South America! They have a great website and blog with stories and pictures from the road....  http://theloveydovies.net

Not only are they great at what they do, they are awesome guys too! I'll never forget how they stayed and helped clean up after Burning Crawfish last year before I was even fully awake! That is one way to ensure you'll be invited back!! Thanks Lovey Dovies.

Check out their sweet video... "Workhorse"

Band Profile: The Local Skank

These gals (and guy) are one of the hardest working (and most fun!) ska groups in New Orleans and this will be their second Burning Crawfish Fest! After forming through an ad on Craigslist in 2008, the chemistry between the members of this almost all girl group is amazing, as if they've known each other all their lives. They have a real knack for costumes, cupcakes, and really cute calendars that feature themed pictures of the band for each month of the year. Also, they have a song that teaches you how to Skank! So no excuses! I hope to see everyone dancing to their set Saturday June 18th!!!

Here's one of my favorite songs. Enjoy!

Band Profile: White Light Cemetery

Back in 2009, when we were first getting this festival thing started, White Light Cemetery headlined the very first Burning Crawfish. After missing last year's fest due to member changes and unavoidable situations, I am excited to have these awesome dudes back again this year!

These guys have a great heavy, southern rock style....which you can see for yourself here....

A cool video for "Rain Song" by WLC....

New Happenings!

Besides watching great bands and eating lots of spicy crawfish, what else is there to do at the festival??
Here's a list of some of the possibilities for the 2011 Burning Crawfish!

Slip-n-Slide- So we all know how hot it can be in June. What better way to cool us all off than a super sweet splash on the slip-n-slide??  Bring your bathing suits!!

Photobooth- Take your picture with "Crawford" (the giant crawfish) before we torch him at the end of the night! For a small fee we'll print out your pictures on the spot so you have something to remember us by!

Zip-Line-  Get ready to see the festival from a bird's-eye view! Short trips across the grounds via zip-line will be available for $1 a ride.

Spin-Art- Who doesn't love spin art?! Buy your own works of art, or work on a collaborative canvas!!
